Connect to a Third Party Domain Registrar

Connecting a third-party domain registrar to your website or hosting provider involves updating DNS settings or name servers to point to your web hosting service. Here’s a step-by-step guide based on different scenarios.

`

General Steps to Connect a Third-Party Domain Registrar

`

1. Log in to Your Domain Registrar

  • Go to the website of your domain registrar (e.g., Namecheap, GoDaddy, Google Domains, Cloudflare).
  • Log in to your account.

2. Locate Domain Management Settings

  • Find the domain management or DNS settings section.
  • The option might be named “Manage Domain,” “DNS Settings,” or “Nameservers.”

3. Choose a Connection Method

Depending on your hosting provider, you can connect your domain in two ways:

  1. Updating Name Servers (Recommended)
  • This method transfers full DNS management to your hosting provider.
  • Copy the nameservers provided by your hosting service (e.g., ns1.synstadomains.com, ns2.synstadomains.com).
  • Update the nameserver settings in your domain registrar’s dashboard.
  • Save the changes (it may take up to 24 hours to propagate).
  1. Updating DNS Records (Alternative)
  • This method allows you to keep DNS management at your domain registrar while pointing only specific records to your website.
  • Find the DNS Records section in your domain registrar.
  • Update the following records as per your hosting provider’s instructions:
    • A Record: Points to your hosting provider’s IP address.
    • CNAME Record: Points subdomains (like www.yourdomain.com) to your main domain.
    • MX Records: Used for setting up email hosting (if required).
  • Save the changes.

4. Verify the Connection

  • Check your hosting provider’s settings for a domain verification option.
  • Use online tools like DNS Checker to verify if the changes have propagated.

5. (Optional) Enable SSL Certificate

  • Many hosting providers offer free SSL (via Let’s Encrypt) once the domain is connected.
  • If needed, install an SSL certificate through your hosting provider’s control panel.
